Top 10 all time goal-scoring goalkeepers

There is something very special about seeing a shot-stopper flip the script and get his name on the scoresheet. 

Here are the 10 goalkeepers who have scored the most goals in football history:

10. Fernando Patterson, 1993/2012 – 26 goals

Patterson is probably not a name that will ring many bells, unless we have any experts of Costa Rican or Guatemalan football.

He played for Guatemalan side Xelaju in five operate spells and found the net on a regular basis including 13 times before 1999 and 2001.

9. Dragan Pantelic, 1971/1985 – 26 goals

A great keeper from yesteryear, Pantelic scored a brace of international goals for Yugoslavia.

He also bagged more than a goal-a-season for Radnicki Nis (formerly a Yugoslavian side but now in Serbia) over a ten year spell in the 70s.

8. Misael Alfaro, 1988/2010 – 31 goals

Alfaro was something of a south American penalty expert.

His career was cut short by a serious neck injury.

7. Hans-Jorg Butt, 1994/2012 – 32 goals

Butt was a consistent goalscorer for Hamburger and then Bayer Leverkusen over a decade-long period over the turn of the millennium but he’s goalscoring didn’t always have the desired affect.

After scoring a penalty for Bayer against Schalke in 2004, the German was famously lobbed from the halfway line while jogging back to his position.

6. Marcio, 2002/present – 34 goals

Still playing today, Brazilian Marcio scored a shedload of goals for former side Atletico Goianiense.

He has since moved as his career winds down but had a hit-rate of a goal every 13 games for the club.

5. Johnny Vegas Fernandez, 1997/2017 – 39 goals

Fernandez was another keeper with an excellent technique from the penalty spot.

He was a great of Peruvian football and found the net on a regular basis despite switching clubs nearly every season in the second half of his career.

4. Rene Higuita, 1985/2010 – 41 goals

Famous of his ‘Scorpion Kick’ clearance against England at Wembley in 1995, Higuita also had a keen eye for goal.

He bagged three times for Colombia during his well-storied career.

3. Dimitar Ivankov, 1996/2012 – 42 goals

The Bulgarian was a constant goalscoring threat for Levski Sofia for several seasons and helped them win a host of trophies from 1998 to 2005.

He went on to play in the Turkish Super Lig and continued to be a regular name on the scoresheet.

2. Jose Luis Chilavert, 1982/2004 – 67 goals

The Paraguayan, who is the only goalkeeper to have a hat-trick to his name, scored a staggering 23 goals in two seasons for Velez Sarsfield in the Argentine Primera Division.

As well as his club exploits, he was a regular scoring for his country and scored three competitive goals against Argentina during his career.

1. Rogerio Ceni, 1990/2015 – 131 goals

Top of the list is Sao Paulo legend Ceni, who boasts a career record that any striker would be proud of.

He played over 1200 games for the Brazilian side, scoring regularly throughout his career. Between 2005 and 2007, he scored 47 goals. Astonishing.
